||antique and vintage costume
There’s nothing I like more than visiting France and trawling the stalls of the local “vide greniers” and “brocantes”for vintage camisoles, petticoats and smocks – usually beautifully embroidered with monograms in tiny, red cross-stitch. Or the serendipity of finding a hat box full of Victorian nightgowns at a local auction. These beautiful, hand stitched items of clothing are a delight. Most are in good, wearable condition – others are more fragile, and suitable for display only. Antique lace bonnets have become very collectable, and the tiny, silk be-ribboned baby’s bonnets are wonderful – especially if you have an antique doll to dress.
